Puppies & Kittens, Rock Springs Veterinarians

Your Pet’s First Appointment

Puppies should ideally have their first veterinary appointment at about six weeks old. Kittens should have theirs at about eight weeks old.

During these first visits, your pet will receive a total physical checkup in order to assess their overall health, to find any signs of congenital defects and to check them for external parasites.

More About Physical Exams

We will also administer deworming medications for roundworms and hookworms, and the first round of puppy or kitten vaccinations.

More About Vaccines & Prevention

Finally, for kittens, we will perform a blood test to check for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus.

Followup Appointments

Puppies and kittens should attend 3 or 4 veterinary appointments while they are between the ages of 6 and 16. These visits to our clinic will help our vets to assess your young companion's overall health and administer their vaccinations on schedule.
